Does insurance cover an immigration medical exam?

Straight answers from Dr. Lishan Kassa, MD, a USCIS-designated civil surgeon in Alexandria, VA.

Quick Answer

Health insurance does not cover immigration medical exams. Our exam fee is $200 for adults and $150 for children (online-booking rate, valid through November 30, 2026). It covers the physical exam and completing your I-693. You receive the original in a sealed envelope plus a copy. Required lab tests and vaccines are billed separately, and your insurance may cover them.

The Details

The exam. Health insurance does not cover immigration medical exams, so the exam fee is not billed to insurance. Our exam fee is $200 for adults and $150 for children when you book online (valid through November 30, 2026).

What the exam fee covers. The civil surgeon's physical examination and the full I-693 process. We review your records and determine which vaccines and lab tests you need. Once all your results are in, we complete your Form I-693 and give you the original in a sealed envelope to submit to USCIS, plus a copy for your records.

Labs and vaccines. These are billed separately from the exam fee, based on what you need. Your health insurance may cover the required lab tests and vaccines.
